Levi Strauss Gets a Bright Idea – A Mostly Fabricated Story of a Pair of Pants

by Tony Johnston; illustrated by Stacy Innerst
(ages 4-7) ever wonder how your blue jeans were invented? Or why? Read and find out in this mostly fabricated story. ;-) But don’t worry - truth and legend get sorted out in the “Note from the Author” at the back of the book. While this is a playful approach to the invention of blue jeans, it lends to some interesting discussions. The use of the word “fabricated” can introduce some great and punny vocabulary to young learners. Levi does get credit for blue jeans, after all the longest standing brand bears his name. Even if he never actually stitched a pair himself, what contributions to this invention should he get credit for? And take a moment to admire the clever cover design!
