Nests and Birds 3-Part Cards – set of 12 birds with nests

Montessori style 3-part cards of 12 different birds and their eggs:

• American robin/cup nest
• bald eagle/platform nest
• barn swallow/adherent nest
• black guillemot/cliff nest
• burrowing owl/burrow nest
• downy woodpecker/cavity nest
• emperor penguin/no nest
• flamingo/mound nest
• great crested grebe/floating nest

The bird species in this collection were carefully selected to provide a variety of some of the most common nest types found in nature.

Each “card set” (bird with nest) consists of 3 images for each set, thus “3-part cards” – special NOTE: because this set has 2 elements of identifying a bird PLUS identifying each bird’s nest, there are 5 cards in each set:

1. control card (picture of bird and nest with label) – approx size: 3.67″ x 4.25″
2. picture card of bird – approx size: 3.67″ x 3″
3. picture card of nest – approx size: 3.67″ x 3″
4. label card of bird – approx size: 3.67″ x 1.25″
5. label card of nest – approx size: 3.67″ x 1.25″

You may use all 5 cards in each set, or you can simplify and use just the bird identifying element or just the nest identifying element. Keep in mind many birds have minor differences in the look of their nests so we did our best to capture the most common features and characteristics.

Look at a map and learn about where other birds in this set live. Learn about the types of eggs they lay, environments they live in, what they eat, what sounds they make, unique habits they have and more! What other animals make nests? Look into how these animals are similar to or different from bird nests.

• Create some bird or egg art of your own! We believe our bird and egg images are inspiring, and you may just want to try your hand at drawing or painting some too!
• Be creative! Make up your own games or use the cards individually for conversation starters, unit or topic initiators,  “hot and cold” games, learning a second language, parts of speech (adding different adjectives), story creation, the sky’s the limit!

How to prepare your card sets: We recommend printing on heavy cardstock and separating with a paper cutter or scissors into the 3 part sets. Round corners with a corner rounder punch (see our favorites page for our recommendation). For added durability, you can laminate your cards, if desired. If you are very low key, you can simply print on paper and cut, just keep in mind this style is not ideal for “memory” activities, but will overall work fine for most others.
