Delaware has only one location mentioned in the “National Parks Passport Book” that is managed by the National Parks Services, but it does have boasting rights as the first settlement and first state in the United States of America! Learn the history behind this state by making a personal or virtual visit to this national historical park.
National Historical Park
First State National Historical Park – New Castle, DE
First State National Historical Park consists of 6 sites throughout the state. Click the link provided for more information (hours, location, etc) for each one, and be sure to bring your Passport to Your National Parks passport book along for all six stamps as well! Most of these sites have connections to the Underground Railroad to Freedom. See the New Castle Court House where John Hunn and Thomas Garrett were convicted of being stationmasters helping slaves to freedom in violation to the Fugitive Slave Act. Visit the plantation where John Dickinson set free approximately sixty slaves that he inherited on one of the biggest plantations in Delaware.
