Roger Williams National Memorial – Providence, RI
If you believe that people should be free to live according to their own conscience and free from government interference, then you’re going to like Roger Williams, the founder of Providence, Rhode Island. After being an outcast in other societies (England, Massachusetts and Plymouth) he founded Providence in 1636 as a “shelter for persons distressed of conscience.” Find out more about this interesting man and the people and places that influenced him to defend religious freedom.
